20 Best Photos from June 2011

June was a very fun-filled month, evidenced while I was reviewing the original 192 photos from that month. And that didn't even include the 10 days we were in NYC! To see all of the June photos (I've whittled it down substantially from the original 192), click here. To see the 20 best photos, carry on.

In first days of June, we got a visit from our good friend, Angela, from our days in Tucson. She was in town for a day and a half. She and I walked up to our neighborhood pub and had a nice dinner. The next day, we all enjoyed the sights of downtown Boston and part of the walking tour of the Freedom Trail. Here we are next to the Frog Pond in the Boston Common.

Here is Thora next to a stand of Allium (otherwise appropriately known as Purple Ball Flower) in the Public Garden.

June brought us back to one of our favorite traditions, the Touch a Truck fair in Charlestown. The kids climbed in and on all sorts of trucks and buses. They had a great time! Here are Thora and Auric operating a mini front loader, I think. (I'd call it a Bobcat, although I can see that it's a John Deere, so...)

Here is Auric with his lady friends, Ellie and Etta. They're splitting an ice cream three ways.

June saw my first trip to Revere Beach with the big kids. On Tuesdays, I picked Zach up from school. And because Auric was with his friend Etta and her dad, Greg during their naps on those days, I could take Zach and Thora on outings further from home. On a Tuesday in early June, we took 3 trains out to Revere Beach and even managed to get a short visit with Sean on our way back to the station.

Thora had her last dance class in early June. She dressed to the nines on this day, in her purple tap dancing leotard and a pink skirt from her dress-up drawers. I think she was nervous and sad for this to be her last day, because when I went to take her picture, she went all slap-stick on me. But somehow, she still manages to take wonderful pictures even when she's trying to dissuade me from taking them.

Here is Auric in his sister's glam sunglasses during Thora's last dance class.

This is usually what happens immediately upon arrival when Thora and Zach have a playdate at our house.

June also brought with it the strawberry harvest and that means the Strawberry Festival out at Verrill Farm in Lincoln, MA. We'd gotten so much rain that the fields were mud pits, threatening to swallow the shoes off our feet.

We continued our efforts to cook out as much as possible. Here are Thora and her friend, River, playing in the back yard after dinner. And yes, Thora is wearing a bright metallic yellow leotard and her red boots.

The local reservoirs opened up and on one warm weekend in June, we made our way out to the Old Res in Lexington with our friends Dana, Greg, and Etta. Here is Sean and Auric. Auric had just stepped on some very hot metal in his bare feet and was being consoled. The moment was particularly special since Auric was wearing Etta's grown-up sunglasses.

For a couple hours, Greg and Thora, but mostly Greg, worked on this massive sand castle. Since then, Thora has asked me to replicate this. I'm a huge disappointment now that she has something to which she can compare my efforts.

We had lots of park time with our friends in June. Here is Auric and his friend Lila, and her mom, Summer.

Summertime means fresh smoothies!

Here, I caught a cute moment of Auric playing doctor with a baby doll.

And lastly, I captured this moment of sibling bliss at the park one afternoon. Auric is giddy and Thora seems to be acting out of sincere affection for her brother. I'm so glad I caught this moment in time.

Stay tuned for our ten days in NYC in the middle of June!
